School Program Information Parent Orientation/Open House/First Week of Class (See School Year Calendar) The Parent/Student Orientation Night is for parents and students to meet their teachers, go on a school scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with the classroom/school spaces, meet the school board and listen to a brief overview of the school day and calendar from the staff. Parents, please be sure to bring student forms, and the 1st month’s tuition. Our first day of class will be the first day to bring in your student through the back door by 8:30 a.m. Our first school day will be a half-day for full day students (8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m). All students will meet in their classes from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Students who will be attending the full day schedule will begin the full day schedule the next school day.
Snacks/Lunches Snacks and lunches are to be brought from home. The school will provide utensils, water, or apple juice with our morning snack and milk for lunch. All snacks and lunches should be prepared and ready to eat for your child. If items need refrigeration, please include an icepack in their lunch box. State regulations for snacks and lunches are listed in our Parent Handbook. Stewardship Program At LSL we are committed to providing excellence in education. As a part of this commitment we ask all families to participate in the LSL Stewardship Program. We believe that not only do the teaching staff of LSL possess gifts that are invaluable in educating your children, but that each family has gifts of time, talent and treasure which can be instrumental in making LSL a safe and stimulating environment for your child’s education.
With the beginning of each school year, each family will make a commitment of 20 hours of time, donated services, and/or a suggested donation of $200.00 to help in the mission of the school. Opportunities to fulfill your stewardship promise will be available throughout the school year. Each family is asked to participate in at least one of our yearly school events.
Chapel Time/Prayers/Songs/Centers There is a weekly chapel time with the Pastor on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. He leads the students through a Bible story and a short lesson and prayer that is appropriate for their age and learning level. Each lesson shows God’s love and how He sent His son Jesus to save us from our sins. The children learn that the Bible shows us how we can live as a child of God loving others and following God’s ways. The teachers also teach a daily Bible Story, lead the students in mealtime and end of day prayers as well as sing Christian songs. The Time with Jesus (3’s/4’s) and the Jesus Knows Me (2’s) centers also teach about God through manipulatives. Weekly Skills Board/Parent Bulletin Board Each week on Monday, parents will find the week’s lesson plan posted on the bulletin board. The lesson plan will follow a weekly learning theme. Each lesson plan will have some learning benchmarks and assessments for the skills/concepts that will be taught. An electronic parent newsletter is also sent weekly by email with class news and parent resources.
Parent Conferences Throughout the school year the teachers evaluate and make notes for each students’ progress. There are 2 Conference Days scheduled during the school year; one in September and one in March. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with the teachers to discuss their student’s progress and Progress Report at those times or any other pre-scheduled time.
Special Events There are several special events scheduled throughout the year where parents are invited to spend some time at school with their child and also help out with the event by fulfilling Stewardship hours. Some regularly scheduled calendar events are: Fall Celebration in October, Thanksgiving Feast in November, Christmas Celebration in December, Donuts with Dads in February, Muffins with Mom in May, the Student Recognition Ceremony, and the End of Year Family Picnic in May. There are also 2 church services scheduled through the year when the students will have the opportunity to sing for the church and families can attend a Sunday service.
